About us
The Italian Academy of Nasal Cytology, established in Bari on January 22, 2009, is a scientific society accredited by the Ministry of Health (Law No. 24 of March 8, 2017, Gelli-Bianco Law).
In addition to representing Nasal Cytology, understood as an important second-level diagnostic method in inflammatory, immunoallergic, and vasomotor nasal pathology, the Academy vasomotor, and neoplastic pathologies, it also has the task of disseminating it not only through cytological research, but also through events (Master’s degrees) offering scientific specialization and advanced training for residents and specialists in medical fields such as otolaryngology, allergology and clinical immunology, pulmonology, pediatrics, pathological anatomy, and general medicine.
Every year in September, the A.I.C.NA. national congress is organized, a scientific event aimed at promoting meetings and discussions between members of other scientific societies and the exchange of new knowledge that has emerged in recent studies published in the most prestigious scientific journals.
What we do
The nasal cytologist can identify the inflammatory characteristics of rhinopathies by detecting the cellular elements that underlie the disease.
It was thanks to the tireless efforts of Prof. Matteo Gelardi and the publication of his studies in prestigious scientific journals that this diagnostic method gained considerable importance and widespread use, greatly benefiting from further research carried out by talented collaborators at the Academy.
These factors have led our Scientific Association to promote and organize conferences and advanced training courses in the field of nasal cytology, with the aim of discussing topics related to daily professional practice and spreading knowledge and technologies in the field of rhinology in Italy and around the world.
Particular emphasis is placed on topics necessary for the accreditation of conferences and master’s degrees, as well as the certification of participation and achievement of medical students (ECM). On behalf of the pharmaceutical sector, it also conducts multicenter studies and provides consulting on product validity, defining standards of use in accordance with a quality assurance system.
Our mission
The Association is a non-profit organization, is apolitical and non-partisan, and pursues the following objectives within the scope of its purpose:
- Representing the doctrine of Nasal Cytology in Italy and abroad, raising Italy’s prestige in this discipline.
- To deepen and disseminate among physicians the knowledge and technological developments achieved in nasal cytology with the aid of chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, etc.
